Charred Sycamore Candlesticks – A few years ago I visited the Palais Guell in Barcelona and was inspired by its extraordinary interior. The black candlesticks shown here came from that inspiration. They are made from trees from Cambridge gardens, given by friends.
Greengage Candlesticks – Made from branches pruned from my greengage tree. The design is as far as possible from the Palais Guell-inspired turnings.
Charred Hornbeam Platter – Charring is one of my favourite finishes for turned work. The wood is blowtorched, then scrubbed with a soft wire brush to remove the charcoal, then waxed or oiled. This produces a wonderful tactile surface a bit like leather
Gwydir Street Cherrywood Bowl – The wood was given by a friend. I did all the turning and finishing, including charring the inside.
Reclaimed Oak Knife Box
Reclaimed Pallet Knife Box – Most pallets are a bit rubbish, but occasionally you get an interesting one.
Knife box (top) – Made from the case of a defunct pipe organ, filled with birch satay skewers.
